Achieve your dream smile in one appointment with cosmetic dental bonding

Dental bonding is one of several cosmetic and restorative solutions available at Del Mar Family Dentistry of Solana Beach, California. Drs. Dale Trudeau and Thomas Fitzpatrick can help you determine the right treatment.

What is bonding?

Dental bonding is a process where a plastic/resin material is bonded to the tooth to mask any imperfections. This not only makes the tooth look better but can also make it stronger in some ways. Bonding is meant to cover up minor imperfections on single teeth and can be used in smile makeovers or as an alternative to porcelain veneers. The procedure is done in just one appointment, making this a fast, easy, and affordable solution for imperfect teeth near the front of the smile.

Is bonding right for you?

An evaluation with our team is the first step in deciding if dental bonding suits you. Most patients with a healthy smile free from disease and decay are considered appropriate candidates for this and other cosmetic treatments available at our office.

What are the pros and cons of dental bonding?

Dental bonding can be compared to other treatment options, such as porcelain veneers, when patients educate themselves on improving the smile’s appearance. Below are just a few of the benefits and drawbacks of dental bonding when comparing cosmetic dentistry solutions available at our office:

  • It can be done in a single visit
  • Costs less than veneers
  • It doesn’t require an anesthetic

Possible drawbacks:

  • Bonding can be stained by coffee, smoking, etc. (unlike veneers)
  • It doesn’t last as long as veneers, and it can wear and chip more easily
